Bondage of Freedom

Details and Artist’s Notes

  • Pleasure House:

    • Dancer

      • Sagittarius is wild and free in body and in spirit. Their athletic nature also makes dancing the perfect medium to explore this wildness, this need for expanding your influence beyond your body

    • General Revelry

      • The men enjoy themselves amongst their peers. Warriors dine after a battle; musicians feast before a performance; the backrooms host more private fun

    • The Women

      • While their surroundings are full or fervor and mirth, these women are at work. The barmaids must still scrub, the sex workers must still devote their time to their clients, and even the artistically expressive dancer must rely on the tips of these rowdy men

      • Sagittarius, while being the signs of experience and freedom, is equally bound by their need to rely on the wisdom of others. This, therefore, perpetuates the traditions they’re trying to break free of

  • Purples, Oranges, and Golds:

    • These colors pay tribute to the color of planet Jupiter, perhaps the archetype of Jupiter in physical form

  • Lute:

    • The lute is associated with Apollo, himself the son of Jupiter

    • The instrument represents both lust and vivaciousness, both associated with Sagittarius

  • The Swallow:

    • The birds adorning the columns are swallows, representing good luck, good faith, and optimism
